New Opportunities are Always Popping Up

We have all done a great job every February contributing to the United Way, but there are many here at Capitol that do even more. Many here also like to volunteer with local charities. Volunteer work is an awesome way to be good part of your community, but sometimes it's hard to swing with work and time off. Capitol now has a solution for you!

Here are the guidelines:

Capitol's Day of Giving Guidelines

With the response over the past 5 years for our United Way Campaign we have had numerous requests for the ability to have time to volunteer in the community. Because of our Value "Committed to being a respectful corporate citizen through personal service or financial contributions," we have created a new program: Capitol's Day of Giving.

Each employee will have the opportunity to volunteer up to 8 hours per calendar year during their normal work week and continue to receive compensation from Capitol.

We encourage all employees to seek out organizations and give back to our community. In return, we only ask that you fill out the Time Off Request completely, including a brief description of the activity performed and a few photos of what happened on that day. We will share the information in our Daily Line Ups, Newsletter, and social media channels as appropriate.

  • You will receive regular wages for the time you are in volunteer status. No outside compensation can be received for the volunteer activity. Flat rate employees should talk to their Supervisor to establish an average pay rate.
  • The Day of Giving is based on the calendar year. You have 8 volunteer hours per year to use. They can be used in increment no smaller than 2 hours each. There is no rollover or compensation for volunteer hours not utilized.
  • Organization and activity must be cleared with Supervisor and HR Manager. Appropriate completed paperwork and request for time must be submitted at least 2 weeeks prior to activity date.
  • Organization must be a registered 01(c)(3) nonprofit corporation.

Special Note: Please understand this is a new program, and we will do our best to accommodate any request; however,m due to unforeseen circumstances there may be some changes along the way.
